The 400 homes on the island range from super opulent to really modest, from waters edge to centre Island, from quiet seclusion to all but part of the weekend bedlam of picnickers, kids and blaring radio’s, and the rental costs range to match the kind of accommodation you desire or are willing to accept.

But it’s all about location. Near, or on, the water for swimming, sun bathing, boating, or fishing.  Flat  roads for walking and cycling, with little or no uphill / downhill variation.  It’s safe for kids and women to go walking on their own, and a hike around the island’s edge takes  just under an hour at a comfortable pace.  Mixed in with all of this is the sense of tranquillity and safety and a pace and lifestyle that is almost impossible to replicate.

But be prepared to be enchanted and willing to return again and again until you finally buy a place and move here permanently. Renting a home on Leisure Isle is a unique experience, and many of the present residents will confirm that the lifestyle is addictive.  It would be difficult to tell how many decisions, to buy and stay, are the result of sunset drinks at Bollard Bay, the breath taking sunset over Belvidere, and the view of the Knysna Heads standing guard over the lagoon mouth, while the aroma of meat on the fire and the gentle Mediterranean air add an almost mystical edge to the red or white wine being sipped from long stem glasses.
